Even When It Hurts
Few songs have impacted me as much as this song has. For the past several years I have struggled with depression. It has been a long roller coaster of highs and lows. My mood changes almost in an instant with no warning at all. I know my family can feel it too. It’s a constant fight to pull out of the darkness and into the light. For me, I know without my relationship with Jesus Christ I would not be here. I have been blessed with an amazing wife and 3 awesome kids. He has used them many times to help dig me out of the pit I so often find myself in.
As a Christian, it has been really hard to reconcile my faith and the battles I’ve been dealing with mentally. That’s not to say I have lost or given up my faith, that is certainly not the case. Some days are harder than others to feel God’s presence. One thing I know for certain is that He never leaves or gives up on us. And it’s nothing we do that keeps Him with us. It’s all about Jesus and His love for us.
The point of this article is not to preach to you. I’m also not looking for a deep dive conversation about mental health and the Christian church. (Though that may come one day. It is a topic that needs to be discussed more in the church.)
Today I just want to share some music with you. Something that the Lord has used to speak to my heart, often when I’m in my darkest moments. It is my hope that even if you aren’t a Christian you will take a few minutes and listen to this song. There is so much hurt in this world. We could all use a break, a moment to seek shelter from the storm of life.
He loves you all. He wants good for you all. I hope He uses this time to speak to your heart.
